A grey 2023 Chevrolet Suburban

The Chevrolet Suburban has long held a reputation for being able to tow almost as much as its Silverado counterpart, and the 2023 Suburban handily delivers on that reputation. Its towing capacity gives you the opportunity to tow the family and your recreational vehicles to your destination in comfort and style.

There’s a lot to like about what the 2023 Suburban has to offer beyond its towing ability, and at Vaden of Beaufort, we want to share what you can expect from the latest Chevrolet Suburban.

Towing Capacity Of The 2023 Chevrolet Suburban

The 2023 Suburban has a maximum towing capacity of 8,300 pounds. However, the actual towing capacity depends on whether it has two-wheel drive (2WD) or four-wheel drive (4WD) and is equipped with the optional Max Trailering Package. Here are the towing capacities for a Suburban outfitted with a 5.3L V-8 engine:

  • Suburban with 2WD: 7,800 pounds.
  • Suburban with 2WD and Max Trailering Package: 8,300 pounds.
  • Suburban with 4WD: 7,600 pounds.
  • Suburban with 4WD and Max Trailering Package: 8,000 pounds.

The Suburban’s maximum towing capacity also depends on the selected engine. For example, a Suburban with a 6.2L V-8 engine, 4WD, and no trailering package is capable of towing 7,400 pounds maximum.

The 2023 Drivetrain That Makes Towing With A Suburban Possible

The 2023 Chevrolet Suburban comes with the following three engine options:

  • 5.3L V-8 L84 naturally aspirated gasoline engine with 355 horsepower at 5,600 rpm and 383 lb-ft of torque at 4,100 rpm.
  • 6.2L V-8 L87 gasoline engine with 420 horsepower at 5,600 rpm and 460 lb-ft of torque at 4,100 rpm.
  • 3.0L I-6 turbodiesel with 277 horsepower at 3,750 rpm and 460 lb-ft of torque at 1,500 rpm.

The 2023 Suburban pairs all three engines with a 10-speed automatic transmission with rear-wheel drive or 4WD. As previously mentioned, you can equip the Suburban with the Max Trailering Package with Regular Production Option coded NHT. This includes an enhanced cooling radiator and a two-speed transfer case for the LS, LT, and RST trim levels that come with 4WD. An enhanced auxiliary transmission oil cooler and external engine oil cooler come standard on all trim levels. A trailer brake comes built into the Suburban and features a seven-pin connector for powering the trailer.

The Suburban features a 28-gallon gas tank. The 5.3L gasoline engine with 4WD averages 15 mpg city/19 mpg highway for a combined fuel economy of 16 mpg. In comparison, the diesel engine with 2WD gets 21 mpg city/27 mpg highway, and 22 mpg combined fuel economy.

The 2023 Chevrolet Suburban Assistive Towing Technologies

Chevrolet loaded the 2023 Suburban with assistive towing technologies and the existing driver-assistance and safety technologies. It has up to 13 camera views that cover all angles and eliminate blind spots, making it easy to see where the Suburban and the trailer are at all times. The camera views include:

Hitch Views

The following three hitch views give you different options to see what’s going on with the trailer hitch, your Suburban’s position when backing up, and what’s on either side:

  • Hitch view.
  • Surround view.
  • Rear top-down view.

Driving Views

The driving views let you see what’s going on around the Suburban and the trailer while driving. They include:

  • Transparent trailer view.
  • Front camera view.
  • Pic-in-pic side view.
  • Rear camera mirror.
  • Inside trailer view.*

*The inside trailer view works with a compatible camera mounted in the trailer.

Parking Views

These four available parking views let you see everything behind the Suburban and the trailer as you back up to a spot:

  • Rear camera view.
  • Rear side view.
  • Front side view.
  • Front top-down view.

The rear views also come with guidance lines to show the best angle or direction to steer the Suburban when it’s in reverse.

The advantage of the tow package and available camera views comes in the form of not having to get a mechanic to prepare the SUV for towing. You’re ready to tow without installing additional equipment on the Suburban.

Safety Technologies That Help Keep You Safe When Towing

The 2023 Chevrolet Suburban features the latest safety technology and driver assist features that work when you’re towing and during normal driving. It comes with seven airbags as standard and the Chevy Safety Assist package that includes the following features:

  • Automatic emergency braking.
  • Forward collision alert.
  • Front pedestrian braking.
  • Following distance indicator.
  • Lane-keep assist with lane departure warning.
  • Intellibeam hi- and low-beam sensors.

Other safety and assist features include:

  • Lane change alert with side blind-zone alert.
  • OnStar and Chevrolet Connected services.
  • Rear cross-traffic alert.
  • Rear pedestrian alert.
  • StabiliTrak electronic stability control system with traction control.
  • Teen driver restriction.

All of these features come as standard on the Suburban, which means you’re ready to tow your trailer or boat safely from the moment you bring one home. You’ll feel secure and safe while you’re towing without worrying about not being able to see what’s going on around you.

Exterior of an elegant historic building located in the Beaufort, SC historic district

Vaden of Beaufort, South Carolina, calls all history buffs to take a self-guided tour through Beaufort’s Historic District. Established in 1711, Beaufort is the second oldest town in South Carolina. In 1969, the National Register of Historic Places designated the district a National Historic Landmark and extended its period of significance to 1950.

If you’re excited about exploring museums, church ruins, historic buildings dating as far back as the late 1700s, and restored learning centers, Beaufort Historic District is the town for you. Take a stroll with Vaden of Beaufort, and explore our guide of the six places to see in and around Beaufort, South Carolina.

The Arsenal At Beaufort History Museum

Built in 1798 to house the Beaufort Volunteer Artillery, The Arsenal at Beaufort History Museum is the fifth-oldest unit in the United States. After the Civil War, this significant historic building hosted social events and military ceremonies. Builders constructed the original structure in 1798 using tabby covered with tiles and a surrounding tabby wall. Laborers composed tabby of lime from burned oyster shells mixed with sand, water, ash, and assorted shells. Today, visitors can enjoy this majestic symbol of Beaufort’s history.

  • Location: 713 Craven St., Beaufort.
  • Hours: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday.

Penn Center

Penn Center is a 50-acre historic district comprising 25 buildings and structures on the beautiful St. Helena Island, South Carolina. It’s proud to have earned the Trip Advisor Certificate of Excellence. The Penn School National Historic Landmark District is the first school in South Carolina for formerly enslaved people of West Africa.

Discover this most notable African American institution with its glimmering marshes, moss-draped oak trees, and captivating beaches at St. Helena Island in a self-guided or reserved tour. We recommend casual clothing, comfortable shoes, and a hat. Schedule a guided tour that includes a historical overview of the Penn School and the Gullah Geechee people, followed by a documentary viewing and question-and-answer session. Walk-in attendees are welcome to join scheduled tours as availability permits.

  • Location: 16 Penn Center Circle E., St. Helena Island.
  • Hours: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily.

Old Sheldon Church Ruins

A testament to Beaufort Historic District’s storied past is the beauty and splendor of Prince William’s Parish Church, known today as the Old Sheldon Church Ruins. The church held its first service in 1757, and historians say it was the first conscious attempt in America to imitate a Greek temple. The National Register of Historic Places listed these sacred grounds on October 2, 1970.

The church is an important historic landmark that dates back to before the Revolutionary War. The British burned Prince William’s Parish Church in 1779 during the war, but tradesmen rebuilt the church in 1826. Whether you’re an admirer of American history or simply looking for a riveting way to spend a few hours, don’t leave a visit to the Old Sheldon Church Ruins out of your next trip to Beaufort. The ruins are open to visitors all year round.

  • Location: Old Sheldon Church Road, Yemassee.
  • Hours: 24 hours daily.

The Fort Fremont History Center

The Fort Fremont History Center is located on lovely St. Helena Island in an area known as Land’s End. Although it was constructed as a fort during the Spanish American War, soldiers never fired a single shot from it. Congress authorized the building of Fort Fremont under the Harbor Fortification Act of 1898. Soldiers made no threats or call-to-arms, as the war was short, and the Spanish never made it to St. Helena or Port Royal Sound. The military deactivated Fort Fremont as a military installation in 1921 and placed it on the secretary of war’s list of obsolete properties.

The National Register of Historic Places listed Fort Fremont as part of the Historic Resources of St. Helena Island. Beautiful, mysterious, and lying along the water, Fort Fremont’s grounds and battery are open to the public. If you visit just before sunset, the photo opportunities are incredible.

  • Location: 1124 State Road S-7-45, off Land’s End Road, St. Helena Island.
  • Hours: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Fridays and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays.

The Chapel Of Ease

Chapel of Ease is a beautiful relic on St. Helena Island. During the colonial period, rice and cotton planters constructed chapels of ease as houses of worship because their plantations were far away from the churches in Beaufort. The Anglican Church constructed this chapel between 1742 and 1747.

Union troops came ashore in 1861, and a messenger interrupted the Sunday services to bring news of an impending invasion. A fire destroyed most of it in 1886, and the church never regained its stature. It still stands as a reminder of an extraordinary era. Picturesque and serene, this historic structure still has a white glow, and all that remains are its tabby ruins and an adjacent cemetery.

  • Location: St. Helena Island.
  • Hours: 24 hours daily.

Beaufort National Cemetery

Beaufort National Cemetery, where over 19,000 lie at rest, is one of six national cemeteries established in 1863 for Union soldiers and sailors who died in the region. Landscapers designed a unique layout in the shape of a half wheel with roads forming spokes from the entrance.

A brick wall defines the property, and you can find four commemorative monuments on the cemetery’s grounds. They’re Eliza McGuffin Potter, a woman who cared for soldiers in Beaufort’s military hospitals, a memorial to Confederate soldiers, and two granite blocks affixed with bronze plaques recognizing African American Union soldiers.

  • Location: 1601 Boundary St., Beaufort.
  • Hours: 8 a.m. to sunset daily.

A red 2023 Chevy Colorado

If you’re looking to buy a new truck, you may look to compare a few different makes and models so you can feel assured that your vehicle can handle anything you may need. Both the 2023 Chevrolet Colorado and the 2023 GMC Canyon offer impressive specs and strength, but the two vehicles can differ in some aspects. Our team at Vaden of Beaufort in Beaufort, South Carolina, has rounded up some of the most important features of both trucks so you can compare and decide which vehicle meets your needs.

Trim Levels

It’s always great to have options, and the lineup for the 2023 Chevrolet Colorado provides a wide variety of trim levels to choose from. You can choose from five trim options, including the ZR2, Z71, Trail Boss, LT, or WT. Each trim includes a variety of exterior and interior appearances, color options, and features so you can find a truck that meets your needs and aligns with your style.

The 2023 GMC Canyon also provides a wide selection of trim levels and options for the 2023 lineup. The Canyon is available in four trims, including the AT4X, AT4, Denali, and Elevation. Having these options allows you to select the style, color, and systems that best suit you and your needs.

Engines And Output

Both the Colorado and Canyon now operate with a standard 2.7L turbocharged engine and eight-speed automatic transmission. The Colorado offers three different power output options. The 2.7L Turbo High-Output engine available in the ZR2 trim provides 310 horsepower with 430 lb-ft. of torque, while the 2.7L Turbo engine provides an output of 310 horsepower and 390 lb-ft of torque in the Z71 and 237 horsepower with 258 lb-ft of torque in the Trail Boss, LT, and WT. This truck also offers a powerful towing capacity, with a maximum of 7,700 pounds, depending on the trim and add-on options.

For the GMC Canyon, all trims also include the 2.7L engine found in the Colorado. Every trim comes with the high-powered, lightweight 2.7L Turbo High-Output engine, which provides 310 horsepower and 430 lb-ft of torque. GMC proudly boasts these new Canyon engines as having the best-in-class standard gas engine torque. Drivers looking for powerful performance, off-roading, acceleration, and towing can find what they need in the engines available. Similarly to the Colorado, the Canyon has a towing capacity that maxes out at 7,700 pounds, with the AT4X model having slightly less power with a maximum capacity of 6,000 pounds.

Performance And Purpose

While both trucks can provide similar power and performance with the same engine, they vary in their primary performance and purposes. With the Colorado, you can select a trim level that focuses on your specific needs such as towing, handling, off-roading, or hauling. The more powerful trim and the high-output engine in the ZR2 are aimed at handling rough terrain and offer a great option for drivers interested in off-road adventures. Other trims in the 2023 lineup have slightly less power or exterior guards, but they provide great everyday use with strong towing capabilities, speed, and handling.

Drivers looking for a true off-roading and adventure vehicle may find greater focus, power, and durability in the 2023 GMC Canyon. The newest lineup of GMC Canyons has a newfound focus on providing a durable and capable truck that can handle difficult terrains with ease. Each Canyon now comes standard with the high-output engine and also features a lift kit and a wider stance than the Colorado. If you plan to off-road in your truck regularly, you may benefit from getting the GMC Canyon so you can push the limits without worrying.

Handling And Safety

Driving a Chevrolet Colorado can offer a smooth, safe, and elevated ride for everyday use, hauling, towing, or off-roading. The 2023 trim levels boast up to five drive modes, including Off-Road, Terrain, Baja, Towing, and Normal mode. Each option adjusts the traction, control, speed, and gear to ensure a safe and smooth ride. Other notable safety features include forward collision alerts, automatic braking, lane-keeping assist, and following distance indicators.

The 2023 Canyon also features different driving modes for improved handling in even the toughest environments. You can select from Baja (only on the AT4X trim), Terrain, Towing, and Normal driving modes. With a greater focus on off-roading and power in the Canyon, these modes aim to give you the safest and smoothest ride possible while allowing you to go just about anywhere. In addition, you can feel secure in your driving with the Canyon’s automatic emergency braking, rear cross-traffic emergency braking, and lane-keep assistance features.

Interior Features

The performance and engineering of a truck are important, but drivers also deserve a comfortable, convenient, and stylish ride. The interior upgrades and selling points of the 2023 Colorado lineup include an 11.3-inch diagonal infotainment display and up to an 11-inch diagonal digital driver information center for easy and high-tech information and safety. Available trims and add-on accessories also include up to 10 camera views including underbody, forward-facing, and rear-facing cameras for improved visuals and safety. Other notable interior specs for the 2023 Colorado include leather upholstery, wireless charging options, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility.

The 2023 Canyon’s interior features got upgrades for the new year. Each trim includes a stylish interior with leather upholstery and specialized accent designs. Other add-ons include the available sunroof and up to 10 different camera views, similar to those available on the Colorado. Drivers can also enjoy the convenient tech with a 6.3-inch head-up display and a standard 11.3-inch infotainment console. The 8-inch fully digital diagonal driver instrument cluster on Canyon Elevation and AT4 trims and the 11-inch diagonal instrument cluster on Denali and AT4X trims make it easy to view vehicle information.

With both trucks appearing as part of the General Motors lineup for the new year, you can rest assured that either one can provide you with the systems, amenities, power, and function you desire from a mid-size pickup. No matter what you want from your new truck, our friendly customer service team at Vaden of Beaufort can help you choose the one that’s best for you. Contact us today to learn more about the new truck models available, and our experts can gladly answer any questions for you.

A silver 2023 Chevy Tahoe traveling off road

Large families, or just drivers who prefer lots of interior space, are the perfect candidates for a full-size SUV, and the Toyota Sequoia and the Chevrolet Tahoe are both strong choices. These SUVs have a variety of infotainment features, strong engines, and spacious cargo compartments. Check out this comparison of the 2023 Tahoe versus the 2023 Sequoia.

Interior Volume

The 2023 Toyota Sequoia has 22.3 cubic feet of cargo volume or 86.9 with the full available seating area. The Tahoe is roomier, sporting 25.5 cubic feet behind the third row and up to 122.9 cubic feet of maximum available cargo volume. Front-row legroom in the Tahoe is 44.5 inches compared to 41.2 inches in the Toyota Sequoia, and second-row legroom is 42 inches as opposed to the Sequoia’s 39.2 inches. While the Tahoe’s second and third rows are quite roomy for adults, the Sequoia’s third row is only wide enough for kids, and the second-row seats don’t slide anymore.

Pricing And Notable Trims

The 2023 Sequoia lineup offers five trims, and the Tahoe offers six trims. Looking at the regular Sequoia SR5 with no options, the MSRP starts at $58,365 as opposed to the Tahoe LS at $54,200. Overall, we feel drivers interested in a roomy starting SUV will love the value they get out of a Tahoe LS, and the higher trims only unlock further possibilities.

If you plan to purchase a Sequoia and enjoy exploring trails and rugged terrain, the TRD Pro offers a variety of off-roading capabilities and standard four-wheel drive. An equivalent, but better package might be the Tahoe Z71 trim with rear-wheel drive. The Tahoe’s Premier and High Country trims are available if luxury is your top priority. Both have heated second-row seats as well as heated and ventilated front seats, similar to the Sequoia Platinum and Capstone trims.

Technology

Both SUVs have an impressive collection of technology features, such as large multimedia screens, wireless charging, and top-tier sound systems. For the 2023 Tahoe, an 8-inch infotainment touch screen and a 4.2-inch driver display remain standard on the basic LS grade. For LT trims and higher, the Tahoe has wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, a 10.2-inch infotainment touch screen, and a 12-inch driver-facing digital instrument panel. Wireless charging, Bose sound, and Google’s voice assistant are all included. A surround-view camera and a head-up display are added with the High Country trim.

As for the 2023 Sequoia, the multimedia system that debuted in the Tundra is back in this family wagon, equipped with either a sizable 8-inch or optional 14-inch touch screen. The system was created by Toyota’s Connected Technologies team and employs touch, sight, and voice activation technology to improve a user’s driving experience. You can navigate or reroute, adjust the music, and regulate the temperature inside the Sequoia in whatever way is most convenient.

Bluetooth connectivity is offered for audio, and a Wi-Fi Connect subscription that supports up to five devices is optional. Additionally, the Sequoia can be connected to subscriptions to Apple Music and Amazon Music. With this and the 14-inch screen, the Sequoia has some impressive options, but the price could be several thousand dollars extra, requiring one of the highest trim levels.

Engine

The 3.4-liter V-6 engine and electric motor used in the i-Force MAX hybrid powertrain provide 437 horsepower and 583 lb-ft of torque. It’s nice that the 2023 Toyota Sequoia features a new hybrid engine, but that remains the only choice.

The 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe’s base engine is a 5.3-liter V-8 with 355 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque. For 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque, consider upgrading to the 6.2-liter V-8 engine. Alternatively, a 3.0-liter inline-six turbo-diesel engine also makes 460 lb-ft of torque and 277 horsepower. Overall, for those who want additional power and engine options, the 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe is more appealing.

Efficiency And Performance

The 2023 Sequoia’s city fuel economy is 21 mpg, with a highway fuel economy of up to 24 mpg. The Tahoe’s diesel engine is more economical, getting up to 28 mpg on the interstate and an EPA-estimated 21 mpg in the city. What’s more, the standard 5.3-liter gasoline V-8 got the same combined fuel rating as the diesel. Even the remarkable 6.2-liter V-8 earns 16 city mpg and 18 highway mpg.

The Tahoe’s performance is enhanced by its independent suspension, which can be improved even further with optional magnetic ride control dampers. A 4-inch ride height increase is also possible when selecting the optional air suspension. To increase its ride quality, the Sequoia utilizes a coil-over front suspension that is completely independent of the solid back axle. The Sequoia also offers an adjustable air suspension, which fortunately is not affected by the rear axle.

When properly equipped, the 2023 Toyota Sequoia can tow up to 9,520 lbs, and the 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe can tow a maximum of 7,900 lbs. While the Sequoia’s tremendous towing capability deserves praise, the Tahoe’s Advanced Trailering System and 13 selectable camera views provide you the absolute confidence you need to perform even the most difficult of workday tasks.

Safety Features

Although each model may approach safety features differently, they both share a good number of them. Chevy Safety Assist, standard on every Tahoe, includes automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, front pedestrian alert, lane departure alert, and a following distance indicator. The addition of camera technology improves several of these characteristics.

The Sequoia, meanwhile, has Toyota Safety Sense, with many similar features to Chevy Safety Assist. You’ll get pedestrian detection for both automatic braking and some steering-assist functions. The Sequoia’s Automatic High Beams feature enables the light level to switch between high and low beams, according to the presence of approaching vehicles.

Get A 2023 Tahoe And More In Beaufort

Overall, we think that you’ll find a more appealing combination of trim levels and features by focusing your shopping on the 2023 Tahoe. It’s roomier, offers great powertrain choices, and doesn’t climb much in price between the various trims. Similarly, you can find better deals on a new Chevy, Buick, or GMC at Vaden of Beaufort. Our pre-owned inventory may also include a like-new 2023 Sequoia or Tahoe, so feel free to browse that as well.
