A grey 2018 Silverado parked in the outdoors

If you’re planning to buy a new full-size truck, you probably have the 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and Ram 1500 on your shortlist. These two models are well-rounded trucks that offer a great blend of work capability, ride comfort, and features. Therefore, it isn’t easy to choose between them. Then again, if you compare their specifications and features, you should be able to make a better-informed decision. Let’s find out how the Chevy Silverado 1500 stacks up against the Ram 1500 in this detailed comparison.

Trim Levels And Prices

Regardless of your budget and transportation needs, you’ll have no trouble finding a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 model that fits you. The highly customizable truck comes in a whopping nine trim levels: the entry-level WT, Custom, Custom Trail Boss, LT, RST, LT Trail Boss, LTZ, off-road-oriented ZR2, and the range-topping High Country. The base manufacturer’s suggested retail price of this Chevrolet model ranges from $33,800 for the WT to $59,000 for the High Country.

The 2022 Ram 1500, on the other hand, offers only six trim options: the base Tradesman, Big Horn, Laramie, the off-road-ready Rebel, Limited Longhorn, and the top-of-the-line Limited. Starting at $36,500 for the Tradesman and $62,685 for the Limited, this Ram is more expensive than the Chevy Silverado.

Performance

Both the 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and Ram 1500 have four engines for you to choose from. The Chevy truck comes standard with a 2.7-liter turbo-four rated engine at 310 horsepower and 430 lb-ft of torque. If you want more power, opt for one of the two available V-8 engines: a 5.3-liter V-8 that produces 355 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque and a 6.2-liter V-8 that delivers 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. There’s also a diesel-powered 3.0-liter turbo-six that serves up 277 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque.

The standard engine of the Silverado works with an eight-speed automatic transmission, while the other engines are mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission. The two available drivetrain options are rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive.

When it’s equipped with its base engine, the Ram 1500 isn’t as powerful as the Chevy. Its power comes in the form of a 3.6-liter V-6 that generates 305 horsepower and 269 lb-ft of torque. Next up is a 5.7-liter V-8 that puts out 395 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque. Another version of this engine comes with an eTorque mild-hybrid system that adds 130 lb-ft of torque. The truck also has an available diesel engine, which is a 3.0-liter V-6 with 260 horsepower and 480 lb-ft of torque.

No matter which engine it uses, the Ram 1500 is fitted with an eight-speed automatic transmission. It comes standard with rear-wheel drive and offers four-wheel drive as an option.

Despite being large and heavy, both the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and Ram 1500 deliver excellent driving dynamics. They’re easy to drive by pickup truck standards and do a fine job of smoothing out uneven surfaces. Additionally, they feel stable at high speeds and surefooted around corners. They also have strong brakes that provide reassuring stopping ability.

Towing Capacity

Silver Silverado by Truck Hardware is licensed with CC BY 2.0

When it comes to towing, the 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 has a slight upper hand over the Ram 1500. It offers an incredible towing capacity of 13,300 pounds, while the Ram can only pull up to 12,750 pounds. Nevertheless, the Chevy’s payload rating of 2,270 pounds is 30 pounds shy of that of its rival.

Exterior

If you want to make a striking statement on the road, you won’t go wrong with either the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 or Ram 1500. The two trucks appear tough and imposing with their tall front ends, massive grilles, and muscular curves. However, they’re easily distinguishable from one another. The Silverado looks sleeker and more stylish with its narrower headlights and relatively flat hood, whereas the Ram has a pronounced hood that gives it a macho and rugged appeal.

Interior

Whether you choose the 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and Ram 1500, you’ll enjoy a comfortable and pleasant ride. The cabins of these trucks are sturdily built and use a generous amount of high-quality materials, making them look and feel upscale. Furthermore, they feature well-cushioned, supportive, and spacious seats that can keep you and your passengers relaxed even on long-distance trips. They both come standard with push-button start, but the Chevy also offers remote keyless entry in its base model.

Infotainment Features

If you want a truck that provides great connectivity and entertainment on the go, you’ll be better off getting the Chevrolet Silverado 1500. Even the entry-level Silverado is equipped with a nice selection of infotainment features, which include a 7-inch touch screen display, two USB ports, Bluetooth, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and a two-speaker audio system.

In contrast, the Ram 1500 offers only a 5-inch touch screen display, USB ports, Bluetooth, and a six-speaker audio system as standard equipment. Its largest available touch screen is a 12-inch display, which is smaller than the Chevy’s optional 13.4-inch touch screen.

Safety Features

The Chevrolet Silverado 1500 is the hands-down winner in the safety department. It has a solid list of standard driver-assistance technologies to help you detect safety hazards and lower your accident risk. These features include lane-keeping assistance, lane-departure warning, forward automatic emergency braking, forward-collision alert, automatic high-beam headlamps, pedestrian detection, a rearview camera, a rear-seat reminder, and a teen-driver monitoring system. A rearview camera is the only standard active safety feature in the Ram 1500.

If you enjoy going on road trips, it may be worthwhile to opt for a Silverado model that comes with the available Super Cruise. This semi-autonomous driver-assistance system can take over certain driving tasks on the highway, such as steering, accelerating, and braking. This makes highway driving a lot easier.

Overall, the 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 seems to provide better value for money than the Ram 1500, thanks to its more affordable price and significantly longer list of standard features. If you’re thinking of buying this awesome Chevy truck in southern South Carolina, we invite you to drop by Vaden of Beaufort for a test drive. Contact us today to make an appointment.

A red 2022 GMC Yukon

The GMC Yukon is a big SUV, providing you with space for up to nine passengers. If you’re heading out of town for the weekend, the Yukon is more than capable of pulling a camper or trailer. To learn more about this crossover’s engine and towing specs, check out the guide put together by our GMC experts here at Vaden of Beaufort. Should you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact us today.

2023 Yukon Engine Specs

The 2022 Yukon’s towing abilities are impressive with all three available engine options. The first engine is a 5.3-liter V-8 capable of putting out 355 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque. You can upgrade to a larger V-8, a 6.2-liter unit with 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. Some of the best towing numbers are provided by the third engine option: a six-cylinder turbodiesel with 277 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque.

All three engines are paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission, which takes care of your gear changes. Rear-wheel drive comes standard, with four-wheel drive available as an optional upgrade.

If you prioritize fuel economy, the diesel engine is your best option. It can return figures of up to 27 mpg on the highway and 21 mpg on city roads. The 5.3-liter V-8 achieves 20 mpg and 15 mpg respectively, while the larger V-8 manages 19 mpg and 14 mpg respectively.

GMC Yukon Towing Capacity

The Yukon’s towing capacity varies between 7,400 pounds and 8,400 pounds depending on a range of configuration options. The highest towing capacity is achieved with the 5.3-liter V-8 engine and rear-wheel drive combined with the optional Max Trailering package. This setup will get you the maximum 8,400-pound capacity.

If you don’t add the trailering package, the diesel engine provides you with the best towing numbers. It can pull up to 8,100 pounds, which it achieves with rear-wheel drive. The larger V-8 has a maximum towing capacity of 7,700 pounds, but you can increase it to 8,200 pounds by adding the Max Trailering package.

Yukon Cargo Space

Cargo space in this large SUV varies depending on the choice of body style you make. The standard Yukon has a spacious cabin that offers plenty of room. Behind the third row of seats, you get over 25 cubic feet of storage space. Fold down the rear row and you’ll open up around 72 cubic feet of capacity. With both rear rows down, you’ll have 122.9 cubic feet of space to work with.

The Yukon XL increases the cabin’s size even more. With a full load of passengers, you’ll have about 41 cubic feet of space at the rear. This increases to 93.8 cubic feet with the third row folded flat, and 144.7 cubic feet with both the second and third rows down.

GMC Passenger Capacity

The GMC Yukon’s standard seating setup includes bench seating in the second and third rows, giving you a maximum capacity of eight people. Legroom in all three rows is ample, so adult passengers can sit anywhere they like. You can reduce passenger capacity to seven if you opt to have captain’s chairs in the second row, which provide a little more comfort for long drives. Alternatively, you can up the seating capacity to nine by adding a bench seat to the front row.

The Yukon’s cabin is very upscale. You get leather seats, wooden and aluminum trim, and power-adjustable seats in the front row. You can upgrade to several even more luxurious options, like heated and ventilated front seats.

GMC Technology And Safety Features

The Yukon’s infotainment system features a 10.2-inch screen and a six-speaker stereo in its base setup. Some other standard features you’ll get to take advantage of include BlueTooth, smartphone compatibility with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and a WiFi hot spot. There are six USB ports located throughout the cabin, allowing you to keep your phone or other device charged while you’re on the go.

One of the highlights among the infotainment upgrades is GMC’s rear-seat infotainment system. This system adds two screens so that second-row passengers can choose what to watch or listen to on their journey. Other possible upgrades include a navigation system and a 14-speaker premium sound system.

GMC equips the Yukon with a long list of safety features. The front and rear parking sensors make it much easier to maneuver this big SUV in and out of a parking spot. The lane keep assist and lane departure warning features can help you have an easier time when you’re on the highway.

GMC’s Teen Driver system is useful if a younger member of your family is learning to drive, since you can impose speed limits and other restrictions on how your Yukon is used. Finally, the standard rear seat reminder feature alerts you to check behind you before you exit the Yukon to make sure you don’t leave children or pets behind.

A number of optional safety upgrades are available. The surround-view parking camera gives you an even clearer overview of any obstacles around your Yukon’s parking area. You can also add adaptive cruise control, which can adjust your speed on the highway, and blind spot monitoring.

GMC Yukon Trims

The 2022 Yukon is sold in four trim options: SLE, SLT, AT4, and Denali. The base SLE trim comes standard with the 5.3-liter V-8 engine, which may be the best choice for you if you want the highest possible towing capacity. The AT4 trim is for off-roading fans, since it’s equipped with several helpful features designed to help you cope with trails and rough terrain. Meanwhile, the range-topping Denali offers all the luxury you could imagine, including an optional sunroof and power-retractable entry steps.

We hope our rundown of the engine and towing specs in the 2022 Yukon has provided you with the information you need to decide whether to purchase this great GMC SUV. Red 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 parked in front of an industrial building

The popular 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 is a powerful pickup truck capable of an amazing range of feats. This includes a truly impressive towing ability, especially with the available towing-related features and accessories. Here we’ll dive deeply into the details of the capabilities of this truck and the range of upgrades that can improve them.

Engines, Payload Capacity, And Towing Ability

Four extremely potent engines are available to power the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500. The first is an enhanced 2.7-liter turbo-cylinder high-output engine granting 310 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque. This Sierra can tow up to 9,400 pounds and carry a payload of 2,280 pounds. The second available engine is a 5.3-liter V-8 providing 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque. This engine grants the 2022 Sierra a towing rating of 11,200 pounds and a payload capability of 2,180 pounds.

The third is a 3.0-liter Duramax turbo-diesel engine generating 277 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque. This diesel engine allows the Sierra to tow up to 13,000 pounds and carry up to 1,830 pounds of cargo. The last option is a 6.2-liter EcoTec3 V-8 engine pounding out 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque. It grants the 2022 Sierra a maximum towing capacity of 13,000 pounds and a maximum payload capacity of 5,420 pounds.

The ProGrade Trailering System

This is the ultimate trailering upgrade for the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500. It is an intelligent trailering technology system that makes the hitching, towing, and unhitching process easy. Let’s take a look at the integrated tools that make this system a masterwork of GMC programming.

The MyGMC Mobile Application

Owners of the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 can use their compatible smart device to create trailer profiles, run pre-departure checks, calculate trailer loads, test trailer lights, and receive important trailer component alerts. These alerts include trailer miles, tire pressure alarms, and other towing and trailering-related factors the driver should know about.

The Smart Trailer System

The In-Command Trailer Control System allows drivers to interact with their RV or camper smart home technology from inside their 2022 GMC Sierra 1500. The functions of this system vary widely based on the tech it connects to. Contact us at Vaden of Beaufort, South Carolina, to find out how this system interacts with your smart technology.

The In-Vehicle Trailering Application

The 2022 GMC Sierra 1500’s infotainment system can be enhanced with this application. It works in tandem with the smart device app and can carry out the same functions. It also adds a theft alert feature.

2022 GMC Sierra Towing Features

There are a few major features that significantly increase the safety and capability where the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500’s towing operations are concerned. Let’s see what they are and what they can do for you:

The Maximum Trailering Package

The Maximum Trailering Package increased the last engine option’s towing capacity to 13,000 pounds. It has a set of extremely useful components, including an amp alternator, a 9.76-inch axle, a 3.42 axle ratio kit, an automatic locking rear differential system, an enhanced cooling radiator, a trailer brake controller, and a handling and trailering suspension package.

The Trailering Camera Package

Trailering can involve some complicated maneuvers, especially when you’re backing up or trying to navigate a crowded space without accidental impact. The Trailering Camera Package includes a pair of side-view mirror cameras for the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500, substantially increasing your trailer side-view. It’s also quite helpful when navigating between lanes in heavy traffic.

The Electric Parking Brake Assist System

Towing puts a lot of pressure on trucks or SUVs, especially when they’re parked at an angle. The Electric Parking Brake Assist System automatically engages the parking brake when the 2022 Sierra 1500 is shifted into park. This completely eliminates the dreaded circumstance that sometimes arises when drivers tow and forget to engage the brake on an incline. The hitch guidance with hitch view feature setup must be engaged for this system to function.

The Integrated Trailer Brake Controller Feature

This feature combines your trailer brakes with your 2022 GMC Sierra 1500’s control systems. This means you’ll be able to engage them from the cabin just as easily as the Sierra’s own brakes. The triggering mechanism is in the center console, so it is easy to engage them and the primary brakes simultaneously in the event an emergency stop is needed. With the right trailer brakes, the load can be stopped with 20% of the normal truck brake effort. This can greatly extend the lifespan of the 2022 Sierra’s braking systems if towing is a regular occurrence.

The Traction Selection System

The Traction Selection System optimizes towing performance by interacting with the 2022 Sierra 1500’s different driving modes. It fine-tunes the StabiliTrak system, the transmission’s shift points, and the throttle mapping to maximize traction in Sport, Terrain/Off-Road, and Normal modes.

These are just a few of the incredible towing features that can enhance your experience when hauling a heavy load.

The 15-Angle Camera View System

Look no further than the powerful 2022 GMC Sierra 1500’s comprehensive camera suite for an all-around view of every towing experience. Available features and views related to this system include hitch guidance with hitch view, rear top-down view, front top-down view, standard rear camera view, front side view, bowl view, surround view, front camera view, bed view with zoom and hitch guidance, rear side view, inside trailer view, rear trailer view, rear camera monitor, transparent trailer view, and picture-in-picture side view.

You’ll never have to wonder what is going on with your trailer, boat, camper, or RV during towing with this system in place.

We at Vaden of Beaufort, South Carolina, want our customers to have the safest and most effective towing and trailering experience possible during every drive. Reach out to our service center and schedule these installations to get the most out of your 2022 GMC Sierra 1500’s towing capability. A grey 2023 GMC canyon parked in a field of grass by the mountains

The 2022 GMC Canyon is a powerful and capable pickup truck ideal for handling tough projects. Its features and options also make it suitable for regular commutes, whether long or short. Let’s see what makes the 2022 GMC Canyon so special.

Robust Engine Options

The 2022 GMC Canyon is available with your choice of three proficient engines. The first is an efficient 2.5L 4-cylinder engine with 200 horsepower and 191 lb-ft of torque. For heavier loads, you may want to choose the 3.6L V-6 engine providing 308 horsepower and 275 lb-ft of torque. The most fuel-efficient option with hefty towing power is the 2.8L Duramax turbo-diesel engine generating 181 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque. Choose from the standard six-speed automatic transmission or upgrade to the snappy eight-speed automatic transmission. All three engines are available with either a rear-wheel or all-wheel drivetrain.

An Intimidating Exterior

The 2022 GMC Canyon isn’t just powerful under the hood. It’s got a powerful look too. It combines a traditional boxy shape with sleek lines and curved accents in a perfect fusion of styles. It features a large body-color grille with black inserts, massive multi-lamp headlights, thick black bumpers, and moderately deep body lines.

The 2022 Canyon is available in four trim levels: the Canyon Elevation Standard, Canyon Elevation, AT4, and Denali. Standard exterior features include halogen projector-beam headlamps with LED signature, a CornerStep rear bumper, 18-inch black-painted aluminum wheels, manual-folding side mirrors, black beltline moldings, and cab-mounted cargo area lamps with a switch bank.

Optional exterior features include an EZ-Lift tailgate, manual sliding rear window, hood insulator, 20-inch diamond-cut machined aluminum wheels with painted accents, chrome beltline moldings, spray-on heavy-duty bed liner, a remote locking tailgate, and LED fog lamps. Chrome manually-folding power-adjustable heated side mirrors are also available.

Impressive Performance

The 2022 GMC Canyon has independent coil suspension in the front and a semi-floating axle with two-stage multi-leaf suspension in the rear. The front setup grants superior ride quality and impressive handling to the Canyon. The rear setup significantly reduces the risk of rolling and is exceptionally good at handling heavy load weights.

The Canyon’s braking system does a remarkable job of stopping the vehicle even when loaded to its maximum passenger and cargo capacity. When it comes to towing capability, the 2022 GMC Canyon can pull between 3,500 lb and 7,700 lb, depending on its installed engine. This is a particularly remarkable towing capacity range for the size of this truck. In addition, it can carry between 1,445 lb and 1,584 lb of cargo, depending on the chosen engine.

Entertainment, Comfort, And Convenience Features

The entertainment features in the 2022 GMC Canyon make it perfect for your daily commute. It comes standard with a GMC infotainment system with a 7-inch diagonal color touch screen. Bluetooth with streaming audio capabilities comes standard, as well as Android Auto and Apple CarPlay app mirroring programming, SiriusXM Platinum satellite radio, and a six-speaker sound system. Optional entertainment features include a Wi-Fi hotspot, HD radio, an 8-inch version of the infotainment system, and a seven-speaker Bose sound system.

Standard comfort features of the 2022 GMC Canyon include a urethane steering wheel, floor mats, cloth upholstery, a manually tilting steering column, and single-zone manual air conditioning. Optional upgrades to enhance your comfort include a power driver lumbar-control seat adjuster, a heated leather-wrapped steering wheel, ventilated and heated front seats, a manually tilting and telescoping steering wheel, leather-appointed upholstery, and single-zone automatic climate control.

Many convenience features come standard in this pickup, such as a day-night rearview mirror, a pair of USB data ports, power door locks, rear seats with dual under-seat storage, visors for the front seats, and express-up and down power windows. For even more convenient features, you may choose to add on dual reading lights, driver and passenger side microphones, automatic cruise control, GMC Connected Access, remote vehicle start, and an overhead console.

Essential Safety Features

The professional engineers at GMC know that safety when driving is paramount. So they’ve added a considerable list of helpful safety features to the 2022 GMC Canyon pickup. The Advanced Airbag System comes standard on this truck. It provides dual-stage driver and front passenger airbags, seat-mounted side-impact airbags, overhead curtain airbags, and a passenger sensing system. Other features include the StabiliTrak stability system, a tire pressure monitoring system, tire fill alert, a rear-vision camera, electronic traction control, daytime running lamps, and a Teen Driver programming suite.

The Teen Driver programming suite allows you to program a key fob and the truck itself, limiting specific functions to enhance driving behavior over time. While it’s active, other safety systems can’t be deactivated. For example, the gear shift can’t be moved out of PARK without the driver’s seatbelt being engaged. The program also generates a driver’s report card for the owner, allowing them to view the teen driver’s performance for later reinforcement.

Even more high-tech safety features are available as optional upgrades, including Forward Collision Alert, Lane Departure Warning, a high-definition rear vision camera, and UltraSonic Rear Park Assist. OnStar and GMC-connected safety services are also available. These systems allow drivers to call for emergency aid with the push of a button.

A mechanic pouring oil into a vehicle during a routine oil change service

A person’s vehicle is one of their most important possessions. Taking care of scheduled oil changes as required by the vehicle’s maintenance schedule can make the difference between a short-lived vehicle and one that will last many years. Below we’ll cover everything drivers need to know about oil changes and their related subjects so you’ll learn how to get the job done right every time.

The Critical Importance Of Oil Change Maintenance

While every driver knows that internal combustion engines run on gas, they need a few other essential things to operate correctly over time. The piston action of an internal combustion engine generates a great deal of friction and associated heat. Motor oil helps reduce the friction and heat generated by the operating process of the machine by lubricating the moving parts and many of the surfaces they make frequent contact with.

This lubrication extends engine life spans considerably. Going without an oil change for extended periods causes the oil already in the engine to become more and more abrasive through the accumulation of dirt, metal, and other particle types. This degradation of oil quality and purity will eventually directly wear down engine components, meaning they’ll need to be replaced more often.

In short, repeatedly skipping the oil changes in a vehicle’s maintenance schedule won’t just cost drivers an engine flush and new oil. It can easily cost them the prices of new cylinder heads, camshafts, pistons, oil pumps, crankcases, camshaft bearings, valve lifters, and every other part oil touches within the engine block’s housing. It could even ruin the engine block if oil flushing and replacement aren’t done for long enough.

The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Each Motor Oil Type

Three primary types of motor oil are rated for use in civilian internal combustion vehicles and hybrid gas engine components: natural, synthetic, and a natural-synthetic mix. While each has a specific period of use, advantages, and disadvantages, drivers shouldn’t choose an oil type based on those factors alone.

Every car owner’s manual lists the best type, viscosity rating, and standard operating temperature thickness rating. These ratings are expressed in number, W, dash, and number format. For instance, 10W-40 motor oil is viscous and thicker during regular engine operation than 5W-30 motor oil. Now that we’ve covered the basics let’s detail each primary type of motor oil.

All-Natural Motor Oil

Natural motor oil is the variety that most drivers are used to using, especially if they’ve been driving for decades. It is the most affordable motor oil, so it bites less into driver’s wallets over time. The standard rule for natural oil has been to change it entirely every 3,000 miles, but recent advances in automotive technology and engine oil refinement have extended that period considerably.

At this point, engines that use natural motor oil should have that oil replaced every 3,000 to 9,000 miles, as dictated by the owner’s manual for the vehicle. If the engine in your vehicle isn’t the same as the one it started with, go with the oil instructions for the new engine, not the ones in the user manual.

Fully Synthetic Motor Oil

Entirely synthetic motor oil is made through more advanced chemical processes that generate a fluid more resistant to engine heat and friction. This oil tends to be best for engine cores that see heavy use or put out a great deal of horsepower and torque. Large sport utility vehicles, massive pickup trucks, and beastly fast sport vehicles benefit from the properties of fully synthetic oil the most. Still, most new and used cars from recent years can use it too.

Ensure that your engine can handle synthetic if you have a car, truck, or SUV with a classic engine. Some classic setups do not handle synthetic oil well. Fully synthetic oil can last from 7,500 to 15,000 miles, depending on the brand, vehicle, and frequency of heavy-duty or high-speed engine use. The harder an engine is pushed, the more frequently its oil should be changed.

Natural And Synthetic Mix Motor Oil

Also known as synthetic blend motor oil, natural and synthetic mix oils are better for heavy-duty use than natural but more affordable than fully synthetic. It is particularly good at reducing friction and increasing heat from engines that see heavy-duty use from a torque angle. This oil’s increased resistance to oxidization makes it great for vehicles that regularly tow large boats, trailers, or campers and often haul heavy payloads. Synthetic blend motor oil should be changed every 7,500 miles or so.

How To Know When An Oil Change Is Required

While a car owner’s manual contains the relevant information related to the frequency of required oil changes, other signs may show before those points reveal a need for an earlier oil change. Knocking sounds from the engine, active oil warning lights, heavier-than-usual exhaust smoke, heavy vibrations when idling, and inconsistent oil consistency are just a few of those signs. If you pull out your oil stick and it shows a low level, it may only need topping off, but go ahead with a total change if the scheduled time is near.

A 2023 Chevrolet Equinox

When choosing between the 2023 Chevrolet Equinox or 2023 GMC Terrain, you can’t go wrong with either one. Both SUVs offer drivers an abundance of comfort and connectivity features. At the same time, the engines are powerful and ready to take you anywhere you want to go. So, if you’re having trouble deciding between these two excellent models, you’ve come to the right place. The team at Vaden of Beaufort compiled this list to help you discover all the great features of the Equinox and the Terrain. Check them out and see which SUV is the perfect fit for you.

Engine And Performance

Let’s start off by looking at what’s under the hood of the 2023 Chevrolet Equinox. Every trim level comes equipped with a sporty 1.5L turbo four-cylinder engine generating 175 horsepower and 203 lb-ft of torque. This block pairs with a six-speed automatic transmission for smooth transitions when shifting gears. You’ll enjoy an EPA-estimated 26 mpg when driving on city streets and an impressive 31 mpg when you take your Equinox out on the highway. All-wheel drive is also standard across the Chevrolet Equinox lineup, and an electronic stability control system with traction control keeps you steady on the road.

As for the 2023 GMC Terrain, it comes equipped with a similar 1.5L turbo four-cylinder engine, and generates the same 175 horsepower and 203 lb-ft of torque as the Equinox engine. However, this engine comes mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission for even better gear ratios. Gas mileage for the Terrain is slightly lower at 24 mpg in the city and either 28 or 29 mpg on the highway, depending on the trim you select. The two lower trim levels come standard with front-wheel drive, but if you want all-wheel drive, you can opt for one of the higher-level trims.

Exterior Style

As for the Chevrolet Equinox, you’ll choose from the LS, LT, RS, and Premier trim levels. The LS and LT trims feature 17-inch wheels, the RS model sits on 19-inch wheels, and the Premier has 18-inch wheels. Heated power outside mirrors are standard across the lineup, but you’ll get integrated turn signals in the side mirrors at the top trim level. Other design features only standard for the upper trims include LED taillights, a power programmable liftgate, roof-mounted side rails, and special Equinox badges and bowtie emblems. You can also choose from two special editions: Midnight Edition and Redline Edition.

If you think the GMC Terrain is the SUV for you, you’ll have to choose between the SLE, SLT, AT4, and Denali trims. Standard design elements for the base Terrain trim include 17-inch silver-painted aluminum wheels, body-color door handles, C-shaped LED lighting, deep-tinted rear glass, and heated power outside mirrors. Moving up through the trims will give you many other outstanding features, such as roof-mounted side rails, a hands-free power programmable liftgate, and fog lights. You’ll want to opt for the Denali trim if you’re looking for 19-inch machined aluminum alloy wheels with premium painted accents.

Interior Comfort

Inside the cabin of the Equinox, you’ll find spacious seating for up to five people. In addition, it offers a maximum cargo capacity of 63.9 cubic feet when the rear seat is folded down. A six-speaker sound system is standard, but the top two trims offer an optional seven-speaker Bose sound system for improved listening quality. The Chevrolet Infotainment 3 system comes standard and features a 7-inch touch screen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The top trim level includes an upgraded 8-inch touch screen for better visibility when driving. This vehicle is also Wi-Fi hotspot capable.

The 2023 Terrain has a roomy cabin, too, with seating for five people and an excellent cargo capacity of up to 63.3 cubic feet with the rear seat folded down. Your tunes will sound great on the six-speaker sound system, but you can also upgrade to the Bose seven-speaker audio system in this SUV. Upper trim levels offer comforts, such as ambient interior lighting, dual-zone automatic climate control, a head-up display, and a heated steering wheel. Available options you may want to consider are a retractable cargo shade, all-weather floor mats, and a first-aid kit.

Safety Features

Safety is a top priority for all drivers, which is why you’ll find an excellent array of standard and available safety features in both the Chevrolet Equinox and GMC Terrain. For example, every trim level of the Equinox offers a following-distance indicator, forward collision alert, and front pedestrian braking. Parents will appreciate the Teen Driver feature if they have kids learning to drive, and the rear-seat reminder ensures you won’t forget anything when you exit the vehicle. Rear park assist, rear cross-traffic alert, and lane-change alert with side blind-zone alert are also available as separate options.

In the Terrain, you’ll also find a following-distance indicator and forward collision alert as standard safety features. An HD surround-vision camera is available for upper trim levels. This helpful feature allows you to get a better view of what’s around your vehicle when maneuvering in tight spaces. Rear cross-traffic alert and rear parking assist are a few other safety features you may want to consider when building out your perfect GMC Terrain. The standard tire pressure monitoring system lets you check the pressure in your tires from the driver’s seat.

We hope this comparison of the 2023 Chevrolet Equinox and the 2023 GMC Terrain has helped you decide which SUV is the right option for you and your needs. If you’re still undecided or need additional information, stop by Vaden of Beaufort or contact us online to find out more about these fantastic vehicles. Our sales team is always available to answer your questions and show you what the car of your dreams offers.
