Chevrolet Volt Drivers in Tennessee Will Receive $2.5K Rebate

As the EV Project spreads its ways across the United States, Tennessee is now added to the list of six states participating in the project- a national study which focuses on providing electric car charging stations and giving state residents incentives for purchasing electric vehicles. Tennessee residents will be offered a $2,500 tax rebate from the state when they purchase the 2012 Chevrolet Volt, in addition to a federal tax rebate of $7,500.

As Jane Donahoe of the Memphis Business Journal explains, "The EV Project provides participants with a free charge station and a credit of up to $1,200 toward its installation. Tennessee residents must sign up for the program, purchase the Volt, take delivery of it and install the charging station by June 30, 2012, to be eligible for the rebate. Dealers can provide information about retroactive rebates."1

Memphis, Tennessee, along with three other cities in the state, is now equipped with charging stations as part of the project, and drivers who choose to purchase a Chevy Volt are also given a free charging station of their own. The state has budgeted $2.5 million for electric car rebates.

Though not all Chevy dealers across the country are participating in this project at the moment, the non-participating dealerships, like Vaden of Beaufort Chevrolet, located at 2811 Boundary Street Beaufort, SC 29906 are proud to be a part of federal rebate program. We only hope that the EV Project will extend to Beaufort, SC as well!
